Welcome back!

I've got a beautiful new sweater to share with you today!

My Chanticleer Cardigan!

This cardigan pattern was designed by Sarah Fama and can be found in the Interweave Knits, Weekend 2010 magazine. It is worked in reverse stockinette with faux seams and a wide ribbed collar. (original Pattern image below)

I knitted my garment in KnitPicks Swish in the colorway Allspice. I gauged up to a size 9 needle for a loose, flowy weave. I only gave myself 2" of positive ease which resulted in a fitted sweater with (unfortunately) no front panel overlap. Due to the sizing I will most likely be leaving the finished project belt free.  I have been wearing it more with the WS facing since the purl side seems to show off my Russian joins more than I would like. Take your yarn joins into consideration when deciding which side of your project will be outward facing.

I made a few changes to the pattern while I was knitting it up. I picked up and knitted the sleeves WS facing for better tension (and an easier underarm pick up) I also changed the frequency/shaping of the underarm decreases, and reduced the sleeve length by about 4". I worked two rows of slip stitch crochet at the bottom of each collar panel to keep the front edges in line with the bottom of the sweater ribbing. You can find a more detailed account of my alterations HERE on my Ravelry projects page.

This was a fast and rewarding project! My only complaint is that the pattern is a bit of a journey to get to. You'll need to purchase and download the entire digital magazine, then find and print the pattern, along with portions of other patterns bleeding over from other pages. Not ideal formatting but it will get the job done.

I've been wearing my new sweater for a few days now and I'm already thinking about making another one. It's just so cozy! What do you think of the Chanticleer Cardigan pattern?

Thank you so much for reading! I'll be back soon with more exciting projects!
