Drama-rama!

Hey guys! 

I'm dealing with some outrage over the name of my business. I thought you would like an update because stuff is about to change! ​

Moon Unit Zappa, daughter of the late Frank Zappa, has recently decided that she is going to trademark her name. Therefore, ANY use of even a portion of her trademarked name is enough to get you in legal trouble! Zappa's lawyers had most of my business sites suspended or deleted without warning, prior to contacting me to explain the situation. 

Many of my friends and family members have urged me to fight this case. I have been using the name Moonunit Designs to promote my business for the last 6 years. Suddenly I'm being accused of pretending to be endorsed by Moon Unit Zappa! How ridiculous! Why would I want endorsement from the daughter of a deceased comedy musician in order to sell hand knitted crafts?

However angry and frustrated these strange accusations and unnecessary legal actions have made me, I don't have the time, or money to start a legal battle over something as trivial as the name of my tiny, un-sponsored craft site. So, this week I will be contacting Etsy, Weebly, Pinterest, Facebook, etc. and changing the name of my business. It looks like most of these sites will allow me to change my name without starting completely from scratch, I will find out more when I get to that point. 

Right now I'm seeking name suggestions. Give me all your good ideas! (Nothing containing the word Moon or Unit please! {you would think I wouldn't need to clarify that given the circumstances, but you would be wrong.}) I will also be needing to order a new business stamp, clothing labels, clothing tags and all sorts of fun personalized shop accessories. If you run, or know of someone who has an Etsy or other small business I would love to hear some recommendations on where to purchase new, personalized supplies. 

In the meantime, here is a collection of photos of Moonunit Dunham. This sweet, 12 year old kitty is the reason I named my shop Moonunit Designs. She has been my crafty mascot since day one!
