Hey guys!

Thought I'd pop in and share with you one of my latest creations and some quick instructions for if you'd like to make some yourself!

Introducing my Luna Lovegood Legwarmers!
Picture
These Legwarmers are a replica of the pair that the character Luna Lovegood wears in the Harry Potter movies.

If you're thinking, "Gosh, Ashley, haven't you been working on those forever!?" you would sort of be right. This is my third pair! The first pair of legwarmers were commissioned through my Etsy website for a ComiCon! I knitted them out of KnitPicks Swish.

The second pair was a custom commission from someone who saw my first listing, I knitted them out of KnitPicks Brava Worsted.

My third pair was also recently commissioned through Etsy. The customer asked specifically for a longer, scrunchier pair than I had made previously. I ended up knitting this last pair in KnitPicks Brava Bulky and adding an extra seven inches to the length.

I thought I'd share some specs here just in case you wanted to make your own Luna Lovegood Legwarmers!

Note: you can make these stripes as long as you'd like! It all depends on how long you want your legwarmers and how much yarn you have!

My WORSTED WEIGHT is set is about 13.5" wide and 14.25" long. I used KnitPicks Swish Worsted and Brava Worsted. I used 5 colors per pair; 2 skeins of black, 1 skein each of 4 different shades of blue. I used size size 4mm/US size 6 double pointed needles for the ribbing and size 4.5mm/US size 7 needles for the body.

 WORSTED INSTRUCTIONS

Cast on 56 stitches with black yarn on size 6 needles. Work k2xp2 ribbing for 10 rows, then switch to size 7 needles and continue knitting until your black stripe is 2&3/8" long (including ribbing.) Switch to dark blue using a jogless stripe technique, knit in dark blue until your stripe is 2&3/8" long. Continue in this manner until all stripes are worked joining new yarn with jogless stripe technique. Work last black stripe same as first (don't forget to switch to size 6mm needles for last 10 rows of 2x2 rib.) Weave in ends, block if using natural yarn. Repeat for legwarmer #2.

BULKY INSTRUCTIONS

My BULKY WEIGHT set is about 13.5" around and 21" long. I used KnitPicks Brava Bulky. I used 5 colors per pair; 1 skein of black and 1 skein of each of the four shades of blue. I used size size 6.5mm/US 10.5 needles.

Cast on 44 stitches, work K2,P2 ribbing for 2", continue knitting until black stripe is 3.5" long (including ribbing.) Join dark blue yarn using jogless stripe technique and knit until stripe is 3.5" long. Continue in this manner until all stripes are knitted. Don't forget your K2,P2 ribbing on the last two inches of the final black stripe. Weave in ends, block if using natural yarn. Repeat these instructions for legwarmer #2.

I hope you find these instructions useful! Let me know if you have any questions. I have been considering making these legwarmers in different color combinations for my Etsy shop, Rainbow Brite style. Good idea?

Thank you for stopping by! Please tag my on the Instagram if you make a pair of these @ashweather_fa.

See you next Tuesday for another crafty update!
