I'm back with a new project to share! I don't know if you follow Melody Hoffmann (@bmandarines on Instagram) but she has released a lovely set of mystery/knit along sock patterns called The Simple Sock Collective. I've just finished the first pair!
The Collective includes three mystery patterns (two of which have already been released.) As Melody states in her intro to the patterns; "All the socks are featuring simple yet engaging stitch patterns, that will keep your hands busy and entertained...all the designs from the collection are featuring yarns that are breed specific or have very interesting characteristics, non-superwash, nylon-free and botanically dyed." Of course you can choose your own yarn if you're stashbusting (like I am!)
The first pattern is a cuff down chevron repeat with a gusset heel. It is worked double stranded with a wool sock yarn and a mohair blend. Melody recommends Moel View yarns for this pattern. I used a combination of Alexandra The Art of Yarn fingering weight in a 65% Superwash Merino, 20% Silk, 15% Yak, and a Fiber Art Studio lace weight in 72% Kid Mohair 28% Silk.
This was my first time working double stranded with a mohair yarn and, honestly, it was not my favorite experience. It probably has something to do with the fact that I knit my socks two at a time so it was a little more yarn juggling than I'm used to.
My fave parts of this pattern are the simplicity of the repeats; easy to memorize/a perfect sock for TV watching, and the construction of the gusset heel, I've never done a gusset with garter stitches on each end, it made for very easy pick ups. I love the end result. These socks are so soft and fuzzy, I'm totally looking forward to wearing them on cold winter nights.
I've got a few too many projects on the needles to keep up with the knit along at this point but I definitely don't regret scooping up all the patterns at the same time, they're beautifully written and are certain to all be knitted by me eventually!
The third mystery pattern has yet to be released, if you're thinking about joining in now is the time to do so! I can't say enough wonderful things about Melody Hoffmann's patterns.
I hope you enjoyed the update! I'll try to hop on here more often. I'll have more finished projects to share with you soon including a new cropped sweater, some super cute commissions and a fun new pattern (by me!) and probably a random recipe so stay tuned!
Thanks for stopping by!
